MJHS 8th Grade Visits the Holocaust Museum

On May 13, 35 MJHS students traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to experience the Holocaust Museum and Learning Center. Students had prepared for the trip by reading the memoir Night in ELA, studying The Hitler Youth in social studies, and completing an independent research project.

The MJHS students were met by Norm and Fran, who guided them to an intimate auditorium. At the front of the room was Mendel Rosenberg, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor who proceeded to share his gripping story in words and pictures. Students took the opportunity to ask questions, and he and his lovely wife graciously posed with the group.

Afterward, students toured the museum with their expert guides, who narrated and added great insight. Natalee Owens reflected on the experience by saying, “It was very interesting and touching to listen to a real life survivor speak and tell his story. The museum itself was also interesting and our tour guide was very thorough in explaining things; I learned a lot.”
